Summary
January 1862 Resolution of the Confederate Congress approving of the Virginia resolution to maintain the integrity of her "ancient boundaries" transmitted to the Virginia General Assembly by Governor John Letcher. Of note, the western portion of Virginia split politically over secession; ultimately West Virginia, which was occupied by Union troops during the Civil War, became a state in 1863.
