Summary
January 1865 Communication from Governor William Smith regarding whether he had duly informed the Confederate government that certain enumerated officials in a Senate resolution of March 10, 1864 were exempt from military service in the Confederate service. Of note, the governor did not agree with the resolution and indicated his concerns in this document.
