Summary
The only book of its kind available in English, Civil Procedure in Japan is the utmost reliable and comprehensive reference on Japanese civil procedure law. In this time of economic and cultural globalization, the knowledge of any foreign procedural system is in great demand by practitioners, judiciaries and academics outside of the jurisdiction. The need for a reputable reference book in English on Japanese civil procedure is particularly acute because of the position Japan occupies in today's world and the general inaccessibility to the non-Japanese of Japanese language materials. In 1996, the Japanese Code of Civil Procedure underwent total amendment and the new Code went into effect on January 1, 1998. As a result, the work has been extensively rewritten and revised to produce the new and improved Third Edition. Fifteen individual chapters describe the world of Japanese legal profession and the Judiciary and set forth the basic concepts involved in the judiciary authority and its interface with other governmental authorities. The trial process is traced from beginning (parties to action and pre-commencement preparation) through enforcement of judgment.
