Abstract

An interview with Celeste F. Bremer, U.S. magistrate judge in the Southern District of Iowa, and Karen K. Klein, U.S. magistrate judge in the District of North Dakota, is presented. When asked of their position on the advisability of judges mediating cases they will preside at trial, Bremer shares that the trial judge should rarely or not serve as settlement judges, while Klein states that it depends on the circumstances. Bremer expresses concern on issues relating to the valuation of cases.
