Numbered issues of Res communes were published 1998-2002, but have been reformatted with the newest title: Vermont journal of environmental law. VJEL began in 1996 as Vermont journal of the environment debuting on the Internet with several articles and student-written notes. With the spring 1996 issue, the name changed to Res communes: Vermont journal of the environment; spring 1998, Res communes published it first official volume as an online journal; in 2003 with publication of vol. 4, the name changed again to The Vermont journal of environmental law; with the 2005 symposium issue, VJEL publication in print format was also begun.
