In 1989, the Parker School of Columbia University School of Law published its Guide to International Arbitration and Arbitrators. This publication was the first ever to offer detailed biographies of persons eligible for appointment as an international arbitrator. The second edition of the Guide, published in 1992, contained more than double the number of names listed in the first. Now the 30th Edition contains over 1,000 Arbitrators with accompanying biographies detailing expertise and qualifications for appointment as arbitrator. The impact of the Roster has not gone unnoticed and has stimulated imitation. But the Roster continues to be unique in determining whom it will list by reference to objective standard relating to arbitration experience, in the detail of the information it provides about each person it lists, and in not permitting a person whose name is listed to pay for being listed.
