Series
House document (Virginia. General Assembly. House of Delegates) ; 1845 session, no. 14.
Summary
Correspondence of the president of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company, along with various documents regarding the February 19, 1845 act to construct their railroad through Virginia to the Ohio River. These communications were submitted to the House of Delegates per its resolutions.
Note
"It is proper to inform the house that the proceedings to which the resolution refers were those of a meeting of the stockholders of the company, and that the communications made on that occasion are more properly within the control of those who constituted that meeting than of the board of directors. The board, however, availing themselves of this opportunity to testify their respect for the house of delegates, have assumed the privilege to transmit all the papers in their possession referring to the subject suggested in the resolution, and which comprise all that were offered to the stockholders at their meeting. These papers are, 1st. A written copy of the letter of Mr. M'Lane addressed to the stockholders. 2d. Copy of a communication from a committee on the part of the City of Wheeling. 3d. Memorial from citizens of Pittsburg. 4th. The report of the chief engineer of the company on the act of the 19th of February 1845; and 5th. The proceedings of the meeting, with the resolutions adopted by it. These two last documents are transmitted in printed form, as they have been heretofore published by the Company."--Page [1].
