Summary
The series contains letters, petitions, committee reports, acts, resolves, deeds, treaties, etc. relating to Indians, Indian land disputes, the Mohegan land controversy, and other Indian affairs. The first volume concerns primarily the Mohegans, the Pequots and the Nehantics; many of the documents concern Uncas, Owaneco, etc. The second volume covers the affairs of other tribes as well. The arrangement is mostly chronological.

"Sylvester Judd ... who about 1845 arranged these legislative papers ... was granted the privilege of making extracts. A large number of the "extracts" which he made were in the form of original papers which are now located in the Forbes Library, Northampton, Mass., and known as the Judd Collection."--Note, v. 1, pt. 1 (1942).
Some documents mutilated, signatures removed.

Ownership
The "Connecticut Archives" are the papers of the Connecticut General Assembly from its beginning to 1820. The first series (163?-1790) was selected and arranged by Sylvester Judd around 1845, and later transferred from the Secretary of State's office to the State Library. The second series (1790-1820) was turned over to the State Library around 1910.
