The first report (1869) contained a description of the parishes of Bapides, Catahoula, Caldwell, Jackson, Ouachita, Bichland, Morehouse, East Baton Bouge, Livingston, and East Feliciana, with a sketch of Dr. Hopkins' observations in his geological tour through St. Landry, Calcasieu, Natchitoches, Winn, and Grant. The second report (1870) covered the parishes of West Baton Bouge, Pointe Coupee, Iberville, Ascension (west of the Mississippi), Assumption, Lafourche, Terrebonne, St. Mary, St. Martin, Iberia, Lafayette, Vermilion, St. Landry, Calcasieu, the western part of Bapides, Sabine, De Soto, Caddo, Bofesier, Claiborne and Union, with the northern parts of Jackson and Ouachita. The third report (published 1872) covered West Feliciana, East Feliciana, St. Helena, Tangipahoa, Washington, St. Tammany, and Livingston.
The second and third reports were submitted to Colonel D.F. Boyd, Superintendent, Louisiana State University.
