"Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same."--Page 1.
"The said Corporation shall be, and they are hereby vested with the sole and exclusive right to construct and maintain a single or double Rail Road or way from the west line of the State of Massachusetts in West Stockbridge, in two branches; one branch by the most eligible route through the towns of West Stockbridge, Stockbridge and Lee, to or near to the Furnace in Lenox, with liberty hereafter, if the said Corporation shall so wish, to continue said Rail Road from the said point of termination through Lenox to the village of Pittsfield; the other branch by the most eligible route through the towns of West Stockbridge and Richmond to the village of Pittsfield, for the purpose of transporting, taking and carrying property and persons on the same by the power and force of steam, of animals, or of any mechanical or other power, or of any combination of them, which the said Corporation may choose or direct to employ, or have employed thereon."--Section 3.
