Summary
Report of the Michigan House Committee on Militia in response to petitions of more than 350 persons, a general, and a resolution of the House asking that a tax be imposed on citizens liable for military duty. As noted, "the communication of one Gen. Benj. F. Cox, deploring at very great length and in term's indicating a powerful pressure of military enthusiasm in his patriotic heart, the low state of military fervor, and the deficiencies of the military system in our State." The Committee recommends that military drills be allowed once a year and it gives conditions for those drills.
