Summary
Document by students of the University of Michigan in reference to students being expelled for participating in unauthorized groups. The students petitioning refute claims of others, including the faculty. The document concludes, "We deeply regret that this unfortunate difference should have arisen in our University--we regret that our Faculty should have been influenced by corporate pride and by the fear of seeming defeated in a favorite measure, to push that measure after it had evidently become unwise and impolitic. ... They would then have been spared the reproach of having made many strong and bitter, as well as unjust charges upon the strength of mere conjecture, and we the pain of appearing as the antagonists of men, whom from their position, we must respect." (Page 20).
