Summary
Report of a committee of the University of Michigan Board of Regents appointed to look into issues with student participation in groups considered secret by the university. The committee notes, "The committee are of the opinion that it is the duty of the Board to guard against such evils, and not to cherish within the bosom of the University a power which, in the majority of its strength, may dictate laws to the Faculty and the Board. ... Obedience on the part of the students, to the laws enacted by the Regents, is as necessary to the existence of the University ... Those societies, in the prosperity of which every student should feel the liveliest interest, has dragged out a feeble existence in consequence of the tenacity with which the students have adhered to their secret organization." (Pages 5-7). Supporting documentation is included with the committee report.
