Summary
Report of the Michigan Senate Committee on Mines and Minerals about the need to explore the mineral resources of the state. Mentioned are the importance of developing productive resources, iron and copper deposits, and the taxation and charters of mining corporations. The report concludes, "We consider the proposed bill of vital importance to the Upper Peninsula--to the early and steady development of the mineral wealth of the State. 'Give them such a law ... [and] they will blast deep in the caverns of the earth and bring out such wealth of their stores, as shall make Michigan the market of a world.'" The report is signed by L.W. Clarke, Chairman.
