Summary
Report of a Michigan Senate special committee about certain resolutions of the Virginia General Assembly regarding the rights of slave-holding states under the United States Constitution. The Committee opposed to amendments to the Constitution or the re-construction of the federal government. They note that they are surprised that some commissioners proposed by Virginia have endorsed the doctrine of secession. Included is the text of a resolution entitled "Joint resolutions relative to sending commissioners to confer with similar commissioners from Virginia and other states, to assembly at Washington, on the 4th day of February, A.D. 1861." The report is signed by Charles V. DeLand, J. Carpenter, and Darius Monroe, Special Committee.
