Series
Senate (Series) (Massachusetts. General Court. Senate) ; 1838, no. 88.
Note
Includes a report of a joint special committee of the Massachusetts legislature. The report is in response to an order to examine the condition of the Fulton Bank in Boston and a memorial of the Fulton Bank which asked to surrender its charter. Stockholders had appointed a committee to investigate the bank and found that "a large part of the capital stock had been lost by the negligence and mismanagement of those having the direction of its affairs and the custody of its funds." (Page 5). The joint special committee recommended "that the Legislature grant the prayer of 'the President, Directors and Company of the Fulton Bank,' and put an end to a corporate being of their own creation, which, by its own confession, has abused and perverted almost every power with which it was endowed..." (page 12). The report includes financial information. The report is followed by a bill entitled "An act to repeal the charter of the Fulton Bank."
