"Theophilus Cushing, Shepard Cary, their associates, successors and assigns, are hereby created a body politic, by the name of the Meduxnekeag Dam and Sluice Company. ... Said corporation shall have the right to erect and maintain dams and sluices, and other improvements, any where on the south branch of the Meduxnekeag river, for the purpose of facilitating the driving and transportation of logs and timber down said river to the main branch of the Meduxnekeag river."--Page 1-2.
