"We the undersigned, inhabitants of the plantations of Hancock and Madawaska, county of Aroostook, State of Maine, humbly present this petition to the Honorable Senate and House of Representatives; praying that all the occupied lands in the second, third and other ranges of the two above named plantations, in the townships which have been sold by the State during the present year, to William H. McCrillis, Esq., as well those included in the said townships as those without the same, whether said lands have been recorded in the office of the Land Agent of the State or in the office of the register of deeds, or whether for want of information your humble petitioners had not registered such lands before the sale of said townships, may be granted to them without other remuneration (to the State) than a moderate charge for each acre, to be paid in labor upon the roads of the locality wherein said lands are found."--Page 3.
