Summary
Maine Senate committee report about a proposed fresh water basin for the use of the United States Navy, followed by the text of a resolve. The committee indicated, "Whereas, the preservation of the iron clad steamships of war of the United States, requires that they should be placed in fresh water basins, and the Presumpscot river at Portland furnishes most available water, combined with other unusual facilities and advantages, for such purpose; therefore. Resolved, That our senators and representatives in congress, be requested to use their best efforts to cause a scientific examination of said locality to, be made, under the authority of the United States, and to secure the establishment of such a basin at that place."
