Note
The exact canonical nature of this council is dubious. It was attended by 13 archbishops and bishops representative of a substantial part of the then kingdom of France. Its purpose seems to have been to depose or to force the abdication of Arnulph, the Abp. of Reims. The king was evidently responsible for the gathering. The Ency. Brit. (s.v. Hugh Capet) says that the assembly took place at Verzy, about 15 miles SE of Reims.
