Description

Summary
Act to encourage privateers during war. Included in the act is a prohibition of any commander of the King's ships, once war is declared, from pressing sailors from these privateer ships into duty, as well as providing a bounty for any prisoner or death taken by the privateers. As noted: "Whereas it hath been observed in the late war, that diverse privateers came here from foreign parts, who took several of the enemies vessels, but were discouraged by the exorbitant charges and fees, in the condemnation of vessels so taken, before they could be condemned, and the interruptions and impediments they met with from captions of His Majesties men of war, ... so that after condemnation of their prizes, little or nothing remain'd to them; which occasion'd all privateers to leave this island ..." (Page [1]).
