"To the House of Representatives of the State of Louisiana. The petition of John M. Leg[g]ett, Thomas Harrison and the undersigned citizens and duly qualified voters of the Eighth Representative District of the Parish of Orleans, respectfully shows: That at the late election holden on the 5th of November, 1855, the said Leg[g]ett and Harrison were elected members of this Honorable House from the said Eighth Representative District of the Parish of Orleans, but that S.P. de Labarre and James M. Whann were illegally returned; that the election of the said de Labarre and Whann has been contested, and the notice, stating the grounds of contestation, has been served upon them, a copy of which is hereunto especially annexed as a part of this petition."--Page [1].
