Description based on No. 2004/94 (15 May 2004). Issue numbers include the year and a sequential number, e.g. the last Journal published in 2003 is identified as No. 2003/250. Beginning with No. 2003/247, some issues appear in English and French on inverted pages. "Published at Headquarters, New York, by the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management"--No. 2004/94, p. 21. The Journal serves four purposes: (i) it informs about upcoming meetings of the General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council and other bodies scheduled to take place on a given day; (ii) it identifies the symbols of major documents to be considered at the meetings; (iii) it summarizes actions taken at the previous day's meetings; (iv) it provides a "Daily list of documents issued at Headquarters" since 5 November 2002 (in the online version, the document symbols serve as links to the full text of the documents). Also known as "Daily journal" and "UN journal". Issues number between 250 and 253 for a given year, some of which appear in two parts. For some issues, addenda are published.
Journal issues are available on the United Nations website from 2003 onward. The United Nations' Official Documents System (ODS) makes Journal issues available from 1992 onward.
