Stapp worked with the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Oregon, and Burney with the US Department of Energy at the Hanford nuclear site in southeastern Washington State. They share their experiences of 25 years as cultural brokers, mediating between native and European cultures to protect, preserve, and make accessible the cultural resources that are essential to native peoples and their ancestral way of life.
