Description
[22], 608, [36] pages : portrait (engraving) ; 33 cm (folio)
Note
Edited by Leonardo Duardo, the author's nephew.
Apparently publ. in 2 v., this being v. 1. Cf. editor's "Ad lectorem," 3rd preliminary leaf (a3a): "Quantum tibi futuri sint grati hi duo posthumi tomi ..." In the 1673 ed. by the same publisher, v. 2 bears the title: Commentariorum in cap. Omnis vtriusq; sexus, [sec.] III, siue, De omnibus statibus tum ecclesiasticis, tum secularibus, pars altera. No information on v. 2 of the present ed., or v. 1 or the 1673 ed., is available to this cataloger, though it seems likely that the later ed. is a page-for-page resetting of the earlier. The title page device with engraved portrait is identical in the two volumes. Both editions are listed by Hurter, but without any mention of the number of vols.
Signatures: a-b⁴ [dagger]³ A-4G⁴ 4H-4Q².
Errata: p. 608.
Printer's device on title page (portrait engraving of the author), head- and tailpieces, initials.
Double columns.
Includes index.
The printer is possibly Salvatore Castaldo, active at Naples from at least 1683; however, in several of his imprints (all those traced in World Cat) his first name consistently appears.
