Binding: contemporary blind-tooled pigskin over cardboard (ties wanting), with red page-edges; portrait of Emperor Rudolf II, dated 1590 and signed "C L", stamped on front cover, with motto "Verbum Domini manet in aeternum" and, below the portrait, "Rudolphus II D.G. Rom. Imp. semper Au[gustus] an. Do. M.D.LXXXX." Above and below the portrait panel are the owner's initials H.G.B. with date 1597. The surrounding panel has small portraits of Cicero, Virgil, and Ovid (repeated), and the four Evangelists. Cf. Haebler, Rollen- und Plattenstempel.
