Lib. copy has stamped in gilt on front flyleaf: A Sa Majesté Victoria, reine d'Angleterre et impératrice des Indes. [At bottom of leaf:] Relié par MM. Oudin. The dedication repeats that printed on leaf preceding title page (there is no half title).
Lib. copy has bound in a ms. letter apparently by the author, written from the "Prison de Civray," beginning "Mon cher maître, Je suis ici depuis le mois de novembre, accusé de nombreux faux en écriture publique" and signed "Votre dévoué serviteur, Hervé, Dr. en droit, ancien notaire à Gévray."
Binding: contemporary red crushed morocco, gold-tooled and -stamped on covers, back, and edges, with inner dentelles, green watered silk endpapers, gilt page-edges, and tricolored ribbon (red, yellow, and green).
