Summary
The proprietors' reply to Joseph Boone's petition presented to the House of Lords on behalf of dissenters in South Carolina. Boone was protesting two acts of the South Carolina Assembly, sent to the proprietors for approval, that required Assembly members to conform to the Church of England's practices and that declared Church of England practices to be the established religion in the colony. The response supported the law to establish the building of more Churches of England in Carolina (as well as regulations regarding ministers and other matters) and challenged the statements of Boone,"known to be a dissenter," and a great "opposer" of the establishment of the church in that part of the province.
