January 31, 1851 Auditor's response to a Senate resolution regarding the financial estimate of the Treasury's deficiency on September 30, 1861, as well as the needed taxation increase to raise sufficient revenue to meet this shortfall; 1862 estimates were also included. Of note, page 7 mentioned charges for the "John Brown raid."
