Description

Summary
Treatise on Roman law, citizenship, and jurisprudence by Carlo Sigonio, the celebrated Italian scholar from Modena who, along with Scaliger, was one of the first humanists to turn erudition into a science. De antique iure also contains sections on the history of Athens and Sparta, and sections on Jewish archaeology and Church history. Sigonio's Fastes consulaires is considered to be the first historical record of the events of ancient Rome using sound scholarly techniques. The present work is most often found in later editions with his De antiquo iure civium Romanorum (also first published in 1560).
