Historical Data
Henri Fargues was born in the Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in southwestern France in 1757. He became the mayor and subsequently a magistrate for the town. At the outbreak of the war with Spain in 1793, Fargues joined the French Army where he distinguished himself. Arrested and released during the Terror, he was elected to the Conseil des Cinq-Cents in 1797 and joined the Conseil des Anciens two years later. Fargues was part of the Coup d'état du 18 brumaire that ended the Directoire and made Napoléan Bonaparte Premier Consul. He became a member of the Sénat Conservateur in 1799 and the Sénat's treasurer in 1803. Fargues died in Autun in 1804.
